From the time Queen Elizabeth II was born in 1926 until her passing in 2022, the world developed rapidly. What changes took place in the Queen's lifetime?
A Century of Transformation
Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom lived for 96 years. She ruled as a queen for 70 years. During those years, the world went through big changes.
Not many could imagine what was going to happen in the world, when Elizabeth was born in 1926. We’ve landed on the moon, created nuclear bombs, and we have the whole world in our pockets through our smartphones.
We can now look back on a time where the world has gone through big changes. Here are some of the changes the Queen took part in and witnessed.

The Sun Began to Set on the British Empire
When Elizabeth II was born the British Empire was the largest in the world. In the 1920s, the empire included a third of the world’s land and a quarter of the world’s population. Because the Empire was spread all over the world there was a saying that the sun never set on the British Empire. After two world wars, the empire was coming to an end.
